Sunway Pyramid embraces the Christmas spirit by helping underprivileged children
Remember being kids and how ecstatic we were to find presents under the Christmas tree? We just couldn’t wait to rip the wrappers off, eager to open our presents – all the things we had wished for all year-long.
However, due to some unfortunate circumstances, not everybody could have their wishes to come true, particularly children who are in need of help. In the spirit of Christmas, Sunway Pyramid’s S.O.S Pine of Hope is collaborating with City Revival Children’s Homes and StART Society – 2 community projects set for the betterment of underprivileged children.
City Revival Children’s (CRC) Homes consist of 2 homes, the CRC (Boys) Home and CRC (Girls) Home, providing care for some underprivileged children around Subang Jaya. Established in July 2006, the majority of the boys in CRC (Boys) Home come from Klang Valley, aged between 7 and 17 years old. Meanwhile, the CRC (Girls) Home was set up in February 2009, housing girls between 5 and 12 years old.
To date, there are 17 children living in the Homes, and some include those who come from violent family background, being abused and placed under child protection, whose parents are unable to provide for them financially and those in need of special care for their disabilities.
StART Society is a non-profit charity organisation catering to serve the underprivileged children within the community, by providing free music, drama, art, craft, dance, speech and life skill lessons. A team of teachers strive to help these kids to discover and develop their natural talents, setting the environment to be conducive for learning by providing the children with hands-on exposure and practice.
For Christmas this year, Sunway Pyramid’s main priority and concern is to assist these Homes and Society through our Pine of Hope and a team of talented buskers.
The Launch of Sunway Pyramid S.O.S Pine of Hope will be on 23 November 2012, scheduled to be attended by Elizabeth Wong, the Bukit Lanjan assemblywoman and Selangor Executive Council Member in charge of Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment. With performances by Liang, CapitalFM Radio DJ and the ambassador for StART Society, the evening is set for a great start to help the homes and society. Liang, an AIM 2008 winner for Best Engineered Album and Best Album Design will be joined on stage by all the 17 children from City Revival Children’s Homes, performing “Silent Night” and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”, with him playing the piano.
From 23 November until 30 December, shoppers can drop by the Pine of Hope Christmas Tree, located at the Water Feature area on Ground Floor, decorated grandly with Christmas ornaments and trinkets. When you see any ornaments or trinkets you like, just ask our staff to get you the similar items. There are also teddy bears and snow globes which you can buy and take home. It is that easy to do wonders for the children in need, as all proceedings from your purchase will go directly to their homes and society.
“These are the gifts that keep on giving, which is what Sunway Pyramid emphasises during Christmas season. We hope shoppers can donate as much as they can to help these unfortunate children, while at the same time getting presents and gifts for their loved ones,” says Phang Sau Lian, the Director of Marketing for Sunway Pyramid.
Music lovers will be rejoiced as they’ll be serenaded by a team of buskers at the LG1 Pyramid Concourse and Ground Floor Water Feature Area on selected weekends in December, at 3.30pm and 4.30pm. These talented performers will be performing and entertaining shoppers, and the best part is, you can also join them! Showcasing their talents, the buskers will be singing, playing musical instruments and dancing, and all donations collected from the public and shoppers will be channelled to the charity organisations.
Making the S.O.S Pine of Hope Campaign more meaningful is Sunway Pyramid’s collaboration with GRIM Film, a local broadcasting and media production company which produces quality and thought-provoking short films such as The Switch, Local Heroes and The Long Distance Relationship, which gained them the spot for Top 10 finalist of BMW Shorties 2011.
To commemorate the Christmas spirit of loving and giving, GRIM Film is producing a truly meaningful and moving video, about celebrating Christmas without the loved ones. The video is specially crafted in the aid of the City Revival Children’s Homes and StART society, which is hoped to create awareness and trigger the loving sentiment among the society to help these children. The public can also view the video via GRIM Film and Sunway Pyramid’s YouTube channels, as well as on Sunway Pyramid’s website.
