Margaret Thatcher – “In politics, if you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.”
The Iron Lady of Britain is spot-on when she said that; indeed, “the hands that rock the cradle can rock the world”!
So what’s the big deal about International Women’s Day, you may ask?
Well, according to the International Finance Corporation, “International Women’s Day has been observed since in the early 1900’s, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialised world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.”
In other words, there’s never been a great time and period (pun intended) to being a woman than at present, we have received and achieved so much as compared to our ancestors.
From world-renowned scientists, head of countries, record breaking athletes, award-winning corporate leaders, accomplished singers and actresses, to basically everything else, women all over the world have become a force to be reckoned with – not only confined to just being seen as the “weaker and fairer sex”, the “damsel in distress” always in need to be saved and pampered.
OK – with exception with the need to be pampered that is.
Even modern fairy tales have awesome twists – just look at films like Kristin Stuart’s “Snow White and The Huntsman” or Drew Barrymore’s “Ever After” – there’s no need for Snow White and Cinderella to just sit around waiting for her knight in shining armour or Prince Charming to come.
They went on and seize the day by themselves. Carpe Diem!
There are so many things to celebrate being the women of today, and let us share some with you:
Not only we get to don gorgeous dresses, slinkiest gowns or tops – we could also nick the men’s attire, like the “Boyfriend’s Jeans”. If your jeans is still in the laundry – fret not, since we could also rock the guys’ style!
Can men do the same with our fashion? NOOOOO – well, unless they wish to bear the consequences!
Yes, we women moan and complain about our figure A LOT, but that doesn’t stop us from keep indulging in the finer things in life. Just bear with us when we kept asking “Do I look fat?” – coz deep down, we know we look FABULOUS!
3. We are so worth it!
We celebrate being women on the International Women’s Day, just because..err…we can!
“Women are meant to be loved, not to be understood” – well said Oscar Wilde, well said 🙂
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY!
