The Safety Rangers putting on their uniform
A lot of parents often don’t take the necessary precautions when riding on the escalators, by bringing shopping trolleys up on the escalators and not holding their child’s hand. To provide a safe environment for both parents and children to truly enjoy a unique shopping experience, Sunway Pyramid has organized The Safety Rangers Workshop whereby the kids will act as the Safety Rangers and put on a ‘safety mission’ to remind their parents and public shoppers on the safety aspects.

The Safety Rangers consists of the Leo Cubs members, aged 7 to 12. First on the agenda was the training and briefing sessions. The briefing covered escalator safety, spotting uniformed personnel in the mall, steps to take when they and their parents are separated in the mall. The children also learnt about the Child Distance Monitors and Wristbands available in the mall.

The Safety Rangers then took a simple “Safety Quiz” to recap what they have learnt, and followed by the pledge of the “Safety Oath”.

Excitedly, the Safety Rangers then moved on to their patrolling duties with Leo and Leona in groups, showed shoppers the right ways to use the escalators and distributed the Child Safe Shopping info tips.

The Safety Rangers workshops were held on 20 & 21 Oct and 3 & 4 November 2012.
Sunway Pyramid has also produced a video entitled “Safety Tips when Riding the Escalators” to provide information on some safety tips at the mall. It was uploaded on YouTube and Sunway Pyramid’s Facebook Page in line with the Child Safe Shopping Campaign 2012. The video served to remind parents and guardians on the tips to ride on escalators properly and safely.
